Joseph A. Mackey, age 73 of Hamilton passed away at home on Wednesday, April 30, 2008. He was born on September 26, 1934 in Somerset, Kentucky the son of Daniel and Lucille (Link) Mackey. Joe worked as a barber in Fairfield for three years and at Hamilton Tool until his retirement in 1996. He then worked at Miami University until 2002. Joe loved to take his family boating and fishing at Brookville Lake and Hueston Woods. He was a member of True Restoration Community Church. On September 5, 1958 in Hamilton, Joe married Shirley Long, the love of his life for fifty years.
He is survived by his wife Shirley; three children, Bev Quante of Indiana, Joe (Micky) Mackey of Hamilton, and Christy (Eric) Colclasure of Camden; six grandchildren, Mathew, Patrick and Nathan Quante, Samantha Mackey, and Tyler and Jacob Colclasure; one great-grandchild, Zoe Quante; a brother, Steve (Jackie) Mackey of Fairfield; and a sister, Theresa Mudleman of Middletown. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Frances Spreher.
Funeral service will be held at the True Restoration Community Church, 3240 Old Oxford Road, on Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Marvin Hurley Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Millville Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.
