September 14th, 1939 - May 5th, 2018
W. Linvel Smith, age 78 of Fairfield, went to be with the Lord Jesus Saturday, May 5, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. Walter was born in Barboursville, Kentucky on September 14, 1939 to Estill Smith and Gracie Jordan Smith. Linvel married M. Jeanette Fisher in Barboursville, KY on July 2, 1960. He was a member of East River Rd. Baptist Church where he was baptized April 25, 2010. He retired from SOS Steel after 30 years of service where he considered those men and women his second family. Linvel played the game of golf for many years as well as being a ranger at Potters Park. He also loved playing pitch with his golf buddies. Linvel was an avid athlete who enjoyed playing with and coaching his sons and also watching his grandchildren. His pride and joy was the following of Randy and Doug playing for the Ross High School 1980 State Basketball Championship team. He will be deeply missed by family and all his many friends.
Linvel is survived by his sons, Randy (Kimberly) Smith, Doug (Anita) Smith; siblings, Glen Smith and Fern (Cecil) Mallard-Daniel; grandchildren, Brandon, Shaun, Spencer and Brooke; sister-in-law, Jewell Smith; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Linvel was preceded in death by his parents; Estill and Gracie Smith; his wife of 54 years, M. Jeanette Smith; brother, Basil Smith; in-laws, Bill Mallard and Pamela Smith.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home, 1350 Millville Avenue, Hamilton, OH. Funeral service will be held at Brown Dawson Flick Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at 10:00 AM with Pastors Arvil Jones and Vernon Morris officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Hospice of Southwest Ohio.
|Linvel Smith was like a second dad to all of us that grew up in the "Park".. He routinely took as many boys as he could get in his car to take us to countless practices as he loved sports of all types, and made sure we all got to practice to be as good as we could be. Mr. Smith will be greatly missed and my deepest condolences to Randy and Doug, who were like brothers...|
